Hydrating Your Skin for Cooler Weather

Avoid letting cool, dry weather become a serious nightmare by taking the following precautions:

Daily moisturizing:
Whether you live in Asia or the frozen desert of Antarctica, an oil-free face lotion is your first step. Your skin is thirsty. Give it what it needs.

Keep your body hydrated:
Applying moisturizers on your face won’t be enough if your body is dehydrated. Don’t forget to drink water just because it’s under 70 degrees. Researchers still debate whether we need all 8 glasses of water per day, but it couldn’t hurt! So, keep your body hydrated for a healthy and glowing skin.

Avoid extra hot showers:
Because hot water can rob all the natural moisture from your body, you’ll want to avoid the temptation to take extra hot showers during winter months. Use moderate temperature showers for a shorter period of time. Finish with a splash of cool water to close the pores.

Lubrication after shower:
Lubricate your skin with essential oils or pure cocoa butter after showering. Cocoa butter is a natural alternative to petroleum-based moisturizers. Essential oils can be added to lotions. Jasmine, lemon or geranium is ideal!

Exfoliate:
Healthy skin that is free of loose, dead cells is necessary for the proper application of both moisturizes and makeup. Exfoliating twice a week during winter would be enough.

Try this low cost, DIY exfoliating scrub:
1⁄2 tsp each of warm honey, brown sugar & lemon juice.
Directions: Mix and let sit for a couple minutes for the sugar to dissolve properly. Use this as a scrub for a few minutes in an even circular pattern and then rinse with lukewarm water.

Hydration for skin is vital for all skin types and the above-mentioned tips can help every skin tone and type attain that happy, healthy glow.
